Dauntsey's Schools Show Jumping
On November 16th the newly formed Trinity Equestrian team entered it's first competition in the NSEA (National Schools Equestrian Association) inter schools show jumping competition held at West Wilts Equestrian centre.
Our riders Millie Smith, Belle Edwards, Anna Dando, William Connors and Megan Luddington found themselves up against well established teams from schools such as Stonar, Sheldon, All Hallows and Hardenhuish.
Teams consisted of a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 4 riders, the top 3 best scores being used in the results. The riders had to ride a 70cm course of 12 jumps with the last 6 fences being timed (as long as the riders were clear through the first 6 fences).
Each of our team rode an impressive double clear round with obvious attention to the timed section of the course and the results were as impressive as the riding. Team Trinity Equestrian came second out of 12 teams with individual honours going to Millie Smith 9th and Megan Luddington gaining 2nd out of 52 competitors in total.
The results were made all the more impressive by the fact that two of our riders were riding ponies that were new to them. Millie and Belle's ponies were both lame for the event and so were riding borrowed ponies and had only jumped them once the day before. Furthermore, of the teams who were entered, the majority were secondary schools.
I feel I must also mention the comment made by the District Commisioner of Avon Vale pony club who gave out the prizes, "what a beautifully turned out team". Many thanks to the parents for their input, turnout of the children and the transport of children and ponies to the event.
This is an impressive start to Team Trinity Equestrian and we hope for more success to report on in the spring, with our younger members being able to compete in some grass roots competitions.
Well done Trinity riders.
