Boys' Football
Years 5 & 6
Thursday 6th November 2014

On 6th November the Year 5 and 6 boys travelled to KLB School in Wotton-under-Edge to represent Team Trinity in the District Boys Football Tournament.

Year 5 boys: Josh, Greg, Joseph, Luke, Reubyn, Beau, Fin, George, Charlie, Will & Harry

The Trinity Famous Five’s first fixture pitched them against North Nibley. Trinity played a good attacking game and were too nimble for the Nibley nippers. A brace of goals for Charlie, one from George and a clean sheet for Harry made for an excellent 3-0 start to the afternoon.

The next game against the British School #1 from Wotton-under-Edge proved to be a much tougher test for Team Trinity. Despite playing well the boys could not break through the British #1 defensive line and two unanswered goals left Trinity trailing 2-0 at the final whistle. A scoreless draw against Hawkesbury concluded the play-off stages.7In the second round of the tournament Trinity encountered some tough opposition and despite some excellent play the boys were defeated 2-0 by British School. In the following game they defended strongly and held Blue Coate to a scoreless draw. In their final game the Alexander Hosea Primary from Wickwar proved too strong a side for the Fives winning 3-0.

Year 6 boys: James, Henry, Charles, Hugo, Eddie, Oliver, Brandon, Cameron & Jacob

The Trinity Super Sixes’ opening game was against Kingswood.  The boys played with maturity, held their shape well in defence and as a result Kingswood rarely challenged the Trinity keeper. Brandon opened the scoring and Charles added two more to win in a comfortable 3-0 victory.

Trinity maintained their form into their next game against British School #2. Another solid performance gave the boys a narrow victory with a single goal from Brandon separating the two sides at the final whistle (1-0).

With the wind in their sails and taste for victory the boys faced Old Sodbury in their next game. After a shaky start the boys re-organised well and had more structure through the midfield and attack. Another goal from Brandon sealed a 1-0 victory and Trinity progressed through to the next phase of the tournament as unbeaten group winners.

In the opening game of second round the Super Sixes played Old Sodbury for a second time. This time unanswered goals from Brandon secured a 2-0 victory.

The next game against Hawkesbury proved to be one the toughest of the day and Hawkesbury put the Trinity under pressure from the start. The boys remained strong in defence and when Hawkesbury did breakthrough some fine goal keeping from James prevented them from finding the back of the net.  A goal from Brandon broke the deadlock and after this Trinity ‘parked the bus’ to hold on to their 1-0 lead until the final whistle.

The final game of the day was against a very determined British School #1 side. The opening passages of play was end to end football and after a phase of attacking pressure Charles found the back of the opposition’s net to give Trinity a 1-0 lead. This opened the floodgates as British School threw everything at Trinity to get back in the game. Unfazed by torrent of pressure the Trinity boys remained calm and organised and a solid team performance prevented British School from scoring and the score remained 1-0 at the final whistle.

Wow Super Sixes indeed; six games played, six wins, small schools tournament winners and no goals conceded! This fantastic performance means that Trinity will go through to the Gloucestershire County Finals later on this year. Every boy gave 100% and made a significant contribution to this super achievement. They and Trinity should be very proud of this!
